Oil companies and their allies in Congress claim that drilling in America's oceans and coastal areas would help solve the energy crisis and have proposed ending the 27-year moratorium on new offshore drilling. But offshore drilling would neither solve our energy needs nor significantly lower gas prices. Instead, drilling would harm America's economy, health, oceans andcoasts.

Yellowstone's wild, free-roaming buffalo herd is under siege. The Bush Administration is turning America's greatest national park into a killing ground for hundreds of mighty bison --better known as American buffalo.

The Baca refuge is an important calving ground for deer and elk and provides a natural sanctuary for imperiled wildlife, including the ferruginous hawk, the threatened burrowing owl, the greater and lesser sandhill crane and the Rio Grande sucker, an endangered fish. Over 4,000 elk depend on the area for critical winter habitat and calving grounds to shelter newborns.

They're a problem. Democrats in Congress who vote with President Bush on the war. Who take checks from lobbyists. Who side with corporations instead of voters. It's not enough just to fight Republicans — progressives need to make sure the Democrats we elect are on our side too.

The same car company that put the world's best-selling hybrid on the road is now asking Congress to drive America's energy future into a brick wall. Toyota has sold more than one million Prius hybrids to environmentally conscious consumers who want to do the right thing for our planet. But, incredibly, the company is now forsaking us by opposing the first improvement in U.S. fuel economy standards in nearly 20 years!

Alaska's senior senator, Ted Stevens, is now working feverishly behind closed doors to make sure that this long-overdue legislation never sees the light of day. “Today we are making history,” Gov. Ritter said. “This project will be the largest wind farm in the state and second-largest in the nation. It will have the longest transmission line in the world. Along with our tremendous agricultural crops, Colorado is the 11th windiest and 6th sunniest state in the nation. Our intellectual resources are second-to-none.

I grew up in a time when being liberal was almost a moral imperative. My parents supported civil rights, women’s rights, and opposed the war in Vietnam. And as best as I could tell, then and now, there weren’t a lot of gray areas in those positions. The left clearly had the moral high ground, and my home state of Alabama, in the 1960s, was arguably the front line in the battle for social change.

A lot of it was based on bad science - there were the "hippie liberal" marine biologists who believed any sneeze hurt the environment. So they went into overkill - attempting to ban almost everything. People panicked, afraid they'd lose their property rights, which created a building boom. Within a few years, we went from having the lowest rate of growth in the state to having the HIGHEST.

Denver voters did not want this individual cited, yet he was cited anyway in defiance of the will of the voters. This individual is a professional, law-abiding citizen who believed he was acting in a legal manner. A citation would not have been issued if this person had enough alcohol in his possession to kill a busload of people, but because it was a tiny amount of marijuana this city will spend valuable city resources dragging him through the legal process, in another example of ou

Its no secret that the military is desperate for folks to join right now. If this is your calling, please pursue it, but be mindful of what you are promised. I hope that one day the military will relax their standards so people in my situation can join of free conscious.

Personally, what I have gathered from seeing this catastrophe, what seems to be revealed above all is how much finding someone to blame seems essential to human nature. We need this to focus our anger and frustration. The Lefties are all blaming the Neo-cons and bad government, and global warming...the neo-cons are blaming the looters, as if they are really a problem...c'mon, let's find some harmony, OK?

I will watch as some of my friends’ desires for marriage become hopeless fantasies, as civil liberties are stripped away from them and the constitution. I will watch as others struggle with life altering decisions that they will not legally be allowed to make. I will watch my nephews grow up in a country where one half of the populace believes the only civil liberty worth protecting is the right to bear arms, while my nephews’ peers shoot themselves and each other with this precious right. "How is it possible for this small clique to bend the will of the majority, who stand to lose and suffer by a state of war, to the service of their ambitions. An obvious answer to this question would seem to be that the minority, the ruling class at present, has the schools and press, usually the Church as well, under its thumb. This enables it to organize and sway the emotions of the masses, and makes its tool of them..."

In Iraq, another eleven Americans have been killed in the last two days. Why isn't this all over the news? Has America become desensitized to our troops dying? How come Bush didn’t mention one word about these troops yesterday during campaign stops? The death toll is now 1002 American troops, and thousands others have been maimed. Nobody knows exactly how many Iraqi civilians have been killed since America has occupied Iraq. I still have no idea what we've accomplished. What does your idea

Bush & Dick are at it again... June was a busy month (even for thisadministration), as Bush, Dick, the Army Corps of Engineers, federaljudges, the Forest Service, the Fish & Wildlife Service, the EPA, and the rest continued on their (war)path of doing more damage to our environmental protections than any other administration in U.S. history.

The question of how a movement for social justice deals with symbols like the Fourth of July or like the flag has always been a controversial one. At the height of the Vietnam War, when some were advocating burning the flag, others said we should wash it instead, try to reclaim the symbol instead of repudiate it.
