Sugar Hill is set to release two new titles as part of their Americana Master Series. Ricky Skaggs: Best of the Sugar Hill Years and Doc Watson: Best of the Sugar Hill Years will both hit the streets on July 8th, 2008. Researched and compiled from each artist's body of work on the label, these tracks were culled from radio chart toppers, fan mail, downloads, and songs and tunes that are recurrent favorites at live performances.

  • Railroad Earth
    With nearly 400 shows and tens of thousands of road miles now behind them, Railroad Earth has become a staple on the national touring and festival scene, and built a huge following of loyal fans that document and trade every note they play, and often join them on the road for multiple nights. These fans call themselves “Hobos,” and the band considers them to be the fuel that keeps this engine chugging along. Railroad Earth’s next album is planned for release in Spring 2004. Till then the band will continue to bring their music to the stage from East to West. So keep an ear to the ground and listen for Railroad Earth, because they'll be rolling through your town very soon.

    The debut on the band was on 18th January 2000, when Metharia won the festival "Le Quattro Notti Rock." In June 2003 they are one of the three winners of the "NMC festival,' in Marcerta winning the award for the best live performance.

Robert Griffith plays banjo and sings harmony. Rob drives the band with lightning fast fingers and great improvising skills. Rich Egan plays mandolin and does some vocals.     After fronting a couple bands in the mid 90s in California and spending the next several years developing his musical and songwriting talents in Japan and Minneapolis, Adam Lancaster landed in Denver in 2000 and founded the band. The band took on many formations and seemingly endless lineup changes for about a year until the perfect complimentary additions of Gregg Rosenthal (drums), Josh Eckhoff (guitar), and Matt Novack (bass, vocals) created a sound and style beyond what Adam could have hoped for. This new talented group immediately began writing songs and reworking old songs to create music and a performance that attracts and engages every listening audience. The personal and musical bond between each member deepened quickly and the dedication from everyone to develop the band to its fullest possibilities is evident.

The cause: Rose Hill Drive was celebrating the release of their second CD, “Moon is the New Earth,” and it attracted the usual gang of Alice In Chains and Hansen look-a-likes, as well as a healthy assortment of all-around rock and roll junkies whose physical appearance wasn’t so easy to stereotype.

On the other hand, many forget that it was a place of art and authorship. Walt Whitman and famous haiku writer Nick Virgilio lived in Camden and wrote beautiful poems about it. Even Poe frequented Camden when he lived in Philadelphia, around the corner from where I live right now. The reason why I mention all of this when I write a concert review about Pearl Jam is because these themes of writing, art, spoken word, darkness, and hope were around all throughout the night.

The sportswriter got it from an old jazz recording of a song called, “Shouting in the Amen Corner.”

And to mark the momentous occasion Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper has declared June 27th to officially be "Widespread Panic Day". It is no easy feat to sell over 9,000 tickets per show, and the band's rabid fan base will surely be thanked with another exciting weekend of music.

    Joe Deninzon’s summer “vacation” includes collaborations with a variety of folks. He’s the musical director for SPIDER DANCE, which he describes as an Italian Riverdance crossed with Cirque Du Soleil, and celebrates the mythical and therapeutic history of the dance, the Tarantella. Mixed with electronic music, the show features fire dancers, stilt walkers, and aerial dancers and percussionist Alessandra Belloni.

    On July 18 the Morrison Hotel Gallery's Soho loft (116 Prince Street, NYC) will offer the first fine art photography exhibit drawn from the extensive Sony BMG archive. "In Session at the Columbia Records 30th Street Studio" will feature candid, in-the-studio photographs taken mostly by Columbia Records' in-house photographer Don Hunstein, at its legendary 30th Street Studio in New York City. The exhibit will feature over 30 limited edition fine art silver gelatin prints - many of them never-before-seen - of singular figures such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Billie Holiday, Tony Bennett, Miles Davis, Muhammad Ali, and Charles Mingus among others. Prior to the exhibit's public opening, the Morrison Hotel Gallery will host invitation-only previews of "In Session" on July 17.

Jesse graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy where he received a "Fine Arts Award in Jazz Performance" and went on to study on scholarship at Oberlin Conservatory and New School University for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Jesse performs his original compositions with renowned jazz artists such as Nasheet Waits, Ben Street, Chris Cheek, Tyshawn Sorey, Logan Richardson, Gary Thomas and others.

    Rightmire’s harmonica is almost certainly the band’s most exciting feature. It functions like a mouth-operated synthesizer, electrified, and run through a huge board of pedals. At times it sounds like a DJ scratch kit, at others it sounds like something from outer space. Sometimes it sounds like a regular harmonica. Rightmire’s epic lung capacity allows him to jam out on the mouth harp with incredible longevity. Long after most people would have blacked out and fallen over, Rightmire keeps the notes flowing, rocking around like a man possessed. I felt lightheaded just watching.

But when the band opened up with Trans Am, an original track off the band’s latest, Moon is the New Earth, the crowd didn’t know what to think. As it would turn out, the change up was so that the band wouldn’t have to pause in the middle of Zeppelin II to play Auld Lang Syne, release the balloons, and watch the happy couples make out on the dance floor. Good thing too, because once these guys got going, there was no stopping them.

Sugar Hill is set to release two new titles as part of their Americana Master Series.  Ricky Skaggs: Best of the Sugar Hill Years and Doc Watson: Best of the Sugar Hill Years will both hit the streets on July 8th, 2008.  Researched and compiled from each artist's body of work on the label, these tracks were culled from radio chart toppers, fan mail, downloads, and songs and tunes that are recurrent favorites at live performances.

Doc Watson
Doc Watson has been an iconic influence on every acoustic guitar player that has come in his wake. A recipient of the National Heritage Award and the National Medal of Arts, Watson's contribution to the American folk idiom is immeasurable. For the Americana Master Series, Watson's Sugar Hill releases - which span over 40 years from 1960 through 2006 - were meticulously combed for the best representation of both the virtuosity that embodies his work, as well as its breadth.

From bluegrass selections that exemplify the flat-picking that has become Watson's calling card to gospel and traditional tunes featuring his soulful vocals, the collection draws upon solo work as well as duets with son Merle and collaborations with Bryan Sutton and Marty Stuart. Also included are tunes featuring the guitarist on banjo and slide guitar, demonstrating the icon's virtuosity and deep connection to Appalachian roots music.

Ricky Skaggs
By the time Ricky Skaggs launched his solo career on Sugar Hill in 1979, he'd already amassed a resume that most retirees would envy. He'd been a member of Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys and the legendary Country Gentlemen. He'd made vital recordings with his friend and collaborator Keith Whitley. He'd been in Emmylou Harris's Hot Band, and he'd been part of the pioneering neo-bluegrass band Boone Creek, whose album One Way Track had in fact been Sugar Hill's first release as a label.

For all he did to bring roots to country, this collection is basted in bluegrass, a hand-picked anthology of the hand-picked music of Skaggs in his early years. Classics like "I'll Stay Around" and "Little Cabin Home On The Hill" from Sweet Temptation show an artist who had internalized the sound and tone of the founding fathers, while Tony Rice's guitar solos introduce overtones of innovation.  With the string of Grammy-winning.
