The Ithaca, New York funk/rock machine Revision is bringing their monstrous grooves and high-octane live performances to Colorado, playing four shows in four nights. Starting in the mountains of Breckenridge, making their way to Boulder, Fort Collins and Denver, respectively, the trio melds the smooth vibes of Soulive with the confident songwriting of Wilco in a unique package that is entirely Revision.

  • Railroad Earth
    With nearly 400 shows and tens of thousands of road miles now behind them, Railroad Earth has become a staple on the national touring and festival scene, and built a huge following of loyal fans that document and trade every note they play, and often join them on the road for multiple nights. These fans call themselves “Hobos,” and the band considers them to be the fuel that keeps this engine chugging along. Railroad Earth’s next album is planned for release in Spring 2004. Till then the band will continue to bring their music to the stage from East to West. So keep an ear to the ground and listen for Railroad Earth, because they'll be rolling through your town very soon.

    The debut on the band was on 18th January 2000, when Metharia won the festival "Le Quattro Notti Rock." In June 2003 they are one of the three winners of the "NMC festival,' in Marcerta winning the award for the best live performance.

    Jim Dooney plays guitar and does most of the lead vocals. He is great at getting everyone involved in the fun by taking requests or choosing the perfect song for any situation. Amy Anderson plays the stand up bass and sings harmony. Amy is the musical backbone of the band. Her playing punch and solid timing keeps us all together in our all acoustic environment. Robert Griffith plays banjo and sings harmony. Rob drives the band with lightning fast fingers and great improvising skills. Rich Egan plays mandolin and does some vocals. Rich keeps your feet tapping and your fingers snapping with his rhythm chops and is great at playing tasteful solos."

  • Curious Yellow (August 2003)
    After fronting a couple bands in the mid 90s in California and spending the next several years developing his musical and songwriting talents in Japan and Minneapolis, Adam Lancaster landed in Denver in 2000 and founded the band. The band took on many formations and seemingly endless lineup changes for about a year until the perfect complimentary additions of Gregg Rosenthal (drums), Josh Eckhoff (guitar), and Matt Novack (bass, vocals) created a sound and style beyond what Adam could have hoped for. This new talented group immediately began writing songs and reworking old songs to create music and a performance that attracts and engages every listening audience. The personal and musical bond between each member deepened quickly and the dedication from everyone to develop the band to its fullest possibilities is evident.

    Marco Benevento continues a year long push behind his debut studio album, Invisible Baby, with a seven city Northeast tour in November. The Brooklyn-based pianist will lead a trio featuring bassist Reed Mathis and drummer Andrew Barr for the first three shows in Hartford, New York City and Burlington. He'll then be joined by bassist Marc Friedman and drummer Josh Raymer for the last four shows in Boston, Northampton, Fall River and Philadelphia.     I have to admit, I like to take an angle when I write. Often times, I will have a phrase or concept thought out, which may be developed into an introduction, even before I go to see a band. How can that be, you may be asking. Well, most of the bands I review I have seen before and I can figure out what to expect. But, last Sunday night’s show left me dumbfounded. Granted, from the moment I read about the pairing of Mason Jennings and Zach Gill, I was a little confused. I know they are both under the umbrella of Brushfire Records, the eco-friendly label pioneered by Jack Johnson. But beyond that, I had no idea what approach to take. I could see them both as strong musicians, but I just couldn’t wrap my mind about where to make a connection. Even more terrifying, for the first time since I began reviewing music, I didn’t have an angle once I walked out of the show. So let’s start simply. The night was amazing.

The changes would weaken environmental standards for mountaintop removal mining operations that, even under the stricter existing buffer rule, have buried hundreds of miles of streams and contaminated mountain waterways. The headwater streams threatened by the rule changes provide valuable habitat and feed larger waters that provide drinking water, fishing and other recreational opportunities.

  • Tell the Bush administration not to let mining companies destroy valleys and streams
    The Office of Surface Mining has proposed changes to its stream buffer zone rule that would make it easier for mining companies to bury natural streams and valleys under piles of mining waste and vast ponds of toxin-laden sludge. The changes would weaken environmental standards for mountaintop removal mining operations that, even under the stricter existing buffer rule, have buried hundreds of miles of streams and contaminated mountain waterways. The headwater streams threatened by the rule changes provide valuable habitat and feed larger waters that provide drinking water, fishing and other recreational opportunities.

  • MARCO BENEVENTO Northeast Tour Update
    Marco Benevento has announced a change to his trio's line-up for the first four dates of his November northeast run. Drummer Andrew Barr had to unexpectedly cancel because his tour with Land Of Talk (of which he's also a member) was extended.     This trio is known for its samba jazz, and, indeed, "Forests" has an overarching vibe that's as chilled and elegant as a Jobim samba. In fact, Helio Alves (piano), Duduka Da Fonseca (drums) and Nilson Matta (bass) display a great deal more breadth in their performances than simply cruising in the samba groove. On "Montreux," they evoke a lovely, impressionistic feel in their measured approach. Their take on Milton Nascimento's "Vera Cruz" has a grandness that's nearly cinematic, particularly Alves' busy, articulate opening solo. Again bringing its skills to bear on a Nascimento tune, "Tarde," Alves plays with a gravity and a stylistic flair that's truly impressive.

    In 2002, I remember walking down the street that lead to the back of one of the smaller stages at the High Sierra Music Festival late one afternoon and being amazed by the sheet of sound that was slowly encompassing me with every step forward. I remember thinking “there is no way that that much distinct music is being produced by two people, much less two people that are not household names.” It was so hard for me to fathom, because it wasn’t just how much sound they were producing that was surprising, it was the diversity of sound. Marco Benevento sounded like four different instruments played by four different people, each with a different style. Joe Russo sounded like an entire drum core, playing in perfect syncopation with one and other. It was only once I got in front of the stage that my eyes confirmed what my ears couldn’t comprehend. The Duo is a name that doesn’t do this pair justice, confining them to the reality that there are only two of them.

Fortunately Mike Berkowitz, an incredible drummer of today rescued the brilliant Krupa arrangements and put together a phenomenal aggregation of some of our New York Jazz world's swingingest musicians and Vocalist extraordinaire, Cassie Miller from L.A. Not just for nostalgia buffs and music historians, any real jazz lover has to be thrilled by the sounds made by this amazing 16-piece group. Scott Barbarino has booked them into the Iridium, the premiere Jazz room (on West 51 Street and Broadway) on Tuesday, January 13, which coincides with what would have been Gene Krupa's 100th birthday.

Rightmire’s epic lung capacity allows him to jam out on the mouth harp with incredible longevity. Long after most people would have blacked out and fallen over, Rightmire keeps the notes flowing, rocking around like a man possessed. I felt lightheaded just watching.

As it would turn out, the change up was so that the band wouldn’t have to pause in the middle of Zeppelin II to play Auld Lang Syne, release the balloons, and watch the happy couples make out on the dance floor. Good thing too, because once these guys got going, there was no stopping them.

    Beat Kaestli moved to New York from his native Switzerland, where he was awarded a scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music and he received his Master Degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music. While honing his craft alongside luminaries such as Jane Monheit, Jason Moran and Stefon Harris, he immersed himself in Manhattan’s fiercely competitive music scene, and now appears in clubs such as The Blue Note, Birdland, The Bitter End, The Jazz Standard, The Stone and Sweet Rhythm, performing with jazz greats, like Esperanza Spalding, Clarence Penn, Joel Frahm and Victor Prieto.

    After extensive touring and a bit of schooling, the band got back together with Chris Zane (Les Savy Fav, The Walkmen, Passion Pit, White Rabbits) to record their first full-length album, Technicolor Health. The result is one of the most quietly ambitious pop albums in ages. Much like Blur fused English pop traditions and contemporary sonics to forge Brit Pop, Harlem Shakes meld the Great American Songbook with unmistakably contemporary textures, creating what one might call "Am Pop." Influences as disparate as the Band, Randy Newman, Carlos Santana and Spank Rock inform the soundscapes, but the vibe is too coherent to be called eclectic.

    The Los Angeles Times recently selected Marco Benevento as a "2009 Artist To Watch" in anticipation of Me Not Me. The ten track collection finds Benevento interpreting the work of artists such as Deerhoof, Leonard Cohen, George Harrison and My Morning Jacket among others. Benevento also contributes three original compositions, including "Now They're Writing Music," which was first performed as a rough sketch last spring when the Brooklyn-based pianist appeared on "The World Cafe With David Dye." In addition to Benevento, the album features the aforementioned Mathis and Barr along with drummer Matt Chamberlain. The set was recorded in Seattle at Chroma Sound and mixed in Brooklyn by Bryce Goggin.

The Ithaca, New York funk/rock machine Revision is bringing their monstrous grooves and high-octane live performances to Colorado, playing four shows in four nights. Starting in the mountains of Breckenridge, making their way to Boulder, Fort Collins and Denver, respectively, the trio melds the smooth vibes of Soulive with the confident songwriting of Wilco in a unique package that is entirely Revision.

Formed in upstate New York between three Ithaca College music grads, Revision showcases their tireless work ethic by playing over 120 shows per year. Taking to the road in their vegetable oil fueled touring van, the trio has shared the stage with such acts as Derek Trucks, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Bernie Worrell and the Cat Empire. Revision’s signature sound is a blend of groovy guitar riffs, rolling rhythms and soulful melodies.

Their latest album, Amplification, was released in April of this year and was produced by Matthew Ellard (Billy Bragg & Wilco, Elliot Smith, The Slip). In addition to being available on CD, the music is also available on environmentally conscious reusable USB drives, cutting down on waste and providing listeners with additional bonus content such as video and artwork. The lead track “Don’t Be Fooled” was featured on the ESPN Sportscenter segment Web Gems earlier this year.

Committed to cultivating a loyal fan base nationwide, Revision is continually expanding their touring schedule. A band that truly loves to play music, the Ithaca trio is a breath of fresh air for today’s music scene.
