Powell: Situation in Iraq 'getting worse'
Secretary of State Colin Powell sees the situation in Iraq "getting worse" as planned elections approach, and the top U.S. military commander for Iraq says he expects more violence ahead. Their comments Sunday followed a week in which President Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi spoke optimistically about the situation despite the beheadings of two more Americans and the deaths of dozens of people in car bombings.

    With nearly 400 shows and tens of thousands of road miles now behind them, Railroad Earth has become a staple on the national touring and festival scene, and built a huge following of loyal fans that document and trade every note they play, and often join them on the road for multiple nights. These fans call themselves “Hobos,” and the band considers them to be the fuel that keeps this engine chugging along. Railroad Earth’s next album is planned for release in Spring 2004. Till then the band will continue to bring their music to the stage from East to West.     After fronting a couple bands in the mid 90s in California and spending the next several years developing his musical and songwriting talents in Japan and Minneapolis, Adam Lancaster landed in Denver in 2000 and founded the band. The band took on many formations and seemingly endless lineup changes for about a year until the perfect complimentary additions of Gregg Rosenthal (drums), Josh Eckhoff (guitar), and Matt Novack (bass, vocals) created a sound and style beyond what Adam could have hoped for. This new talented group immediately began writing songs and reworking old songs to create music and a performance that attracts and engages every listening audience. The personal and musical bond between each member deepened quickly and the dedication from everyone to develop the band to its fullest possibilities is evident.

    Rodney Dangerfield (1921-2004) has died at the age of 82. For me, his character in CaddyShack was my favorite. I also loved Easy Money. Rodney had a rap video on MTV in the early 80's, on The Tonight Show over 75 times and made millions laugh out loud with his signature phrase "I don’t get no respect." His career in comedy didn't take off until after his 40th birthday. "After I was born I was so ugly... they slapped my my Mom in the face" -- Rodney was kind enough to donate this autographed tie for a recent Mimi Fishman Foundation auction.

To me these people seemed, and often time still seem, very upset at the condition of their environment and seem bent on making their voice heard.

As it would turn out, the change up was so that the band wouldn’t have to pause in the middle of Zeppelin II to play Auld Lang Syne, release the balloons, and watch the happy couples make out on the dance floor. Good thing too, because once these guys got going, there was no stopping them.

Their comments Sunday followed a week in which President Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi spoke optimistically about the situation despite the beheadings of two more Americans and the deaths of dozens of people in car bombings.
