    With nearly 400 shows and tens of thousands of road miles now behind them, Railroad Earth has become a staple on the national touring and festival scene, and built a huge following of loyal fans that document and trade every note they play, and often join them on the road for multiple nights. These fans call themselves “Hobos,” and the band considers them to be the fuel that keeps this engine chugging along. Railroad Earth’s next album is planned for release in Spring 2004. Till then the band will continue to bring their music to the stage from East to West. So keep an ear to the ground and listen for Railroad Earth, because they'll be rolling through your town very soon.

Robert Griffith plays banjo and sings harmony. Rob drives the band with lightning fast fingers and great improvising skills. Rich Egan plays mandolin and does some vocals.     After fronting a couple bands in the mid 90s in California and spending the next several years developing his musical and songwriting talents in Japan and Minneapolis, Adam Lancaster landed in Denver in 2000 and founded the band. The band took on many formations and seemingly endless lineup changes for about a year until the perfect complimentary additions of Gregg Rosenthal (drums), Josh Eckhoff (guitar), and Matt Novack (bass, vocals) created a sound and style beyond what Adam could have hoped for. This new talented group immediately began writing songs and reworking old songs to create music and a performance that attracts and engages every listening audience. The personal and musical bond between each member deepened quickly and the dedication from everyone to develop the band to its fullest possibilities is evident.

Rightmire’s epic lung capacity allows him to jam out on the mouth harp with incredible longevity. Long after most people would have blacked out and fallen over, Rightmire keeps the notes flowing, rocking around like a man possessed. I felt lightheaded just watching.

Book Two: The Errant Spider and the Army of the Immense Fabric

 

1. The Return of the Prince

 

The entire kingdom rejoiced Mothinian's return. It had been long concluded that the Prince had died finding the tunnel to the new world. Mothos, the Warrior, had reported this to Mothoriah, who now ruled as Queen on the Immense Fabric. And through her guidance, the remains of Hedge Bush Row thrived and flourished in this New World. A world with a never-ending supply of food. A world without enemies. A world that promised utopia with every new day.

Adhering to the laws of the pursuit of utopia, the denizens of the Immense Fabric demanded Oracles as they grew suspicious as to whether their fortune would last. Mothoriah, being the natural leader that she was, found a method for providing such Oracles. Shortly after waking every morning, she would fly to the greatest heights and eat of the Brown Ivy that laced the Immense Fabric together. After the meal, she would fly into the Everlight to discuss the Future with the Ancestors lucky enough to find Eternal Peace within the bowl that surrounded the Everlight. Long since dead, the Ancestors never crumbled or decayed. Their spirits never left the hollow shells of the carcasses, and the Ivy-Induced Perception allowed Mothoriah to discuss the Future.

On one such occasion, Mothoriah had been told that Mothinian would return despite the fact that his dead body lie forever in the Tomb of Rings just inches from where the Brown Ivy grew. The Ancestors predicted that Mothinian would return after the Last Battle of Door Hinge Nook, barely surviving total annihilation. As Mothoriah was Queen, Mothinian would become her King, finally sealing the interrupted destiny they had planned so long ago.

Mothinian returned. He had returned after escaping the First Great Battle of the Rival Light. Not the Last Battle of Door Hinge Nook. He had not returned alone. He had brought a firefly of all insects with him.

The denizens rejoiced, feasted, and listened to Mothinian's adventures. They now realized that the Oracle had not been completely true. Many moths had become non-believers over night. Motha, a bed servant to the Queen, was one such moth.

"The Oracle has deceived us, m'lady," Motha said one morning while preparing Mothoriah's dewbath.

The Queen sighed diplomatically. "It is unwise to question the Oracle. Death follows such an act."

"I no longer believe in the Oracle's power. Mothinian befriended a firefly!" she hissed.

"Those days are over-"

"No, the fireflies will always bring enemies!"

"How can you know such things?" Mothoriah asked in shock. "You were not alive during the Wars of Hedge Bush Row. Even I was not alive. Things change. That is the nature of life."

"Then how can the Oracle continue to dominate our thinking?"

"Because we allow it too. Every lasting religion dictates this. Haven't you listened to my sermons?"

"You breed lies to control the weak!" Motha screeched.

"It is only because I've known you since the cocoon that I now allow you to live," Mothoriah said sternly. "But you can no longer be in my service. From now on, you are exiled from the Immense Fabric."

The Golden Hill was unusually circular with a narrow peak that stretched across its entire expanse. Motha flew to the southern ridge where she would meet her comrades. Instead, upon landing, she was violently attacked by a spider and destroyed by his numbing venom.

The spider's abdomen returned from speckles of burnt orange to a ruby red shortly after the meal.
