- Railroad Earth
With nearly 400 shows and tens of thousands of road miles now behind them, Railroad Earth has become a staple on the national touring and festival scene, and built a huge following of loyal fans that document and trade every note they play, and often join them on the road for multiple nights. These fans call themselves “Hobos,” and the band considers them to be the fuel that keeps this engine chugging along. Railroad Earth’s next album is planned for release in Spring 2004. Till then the band will continue to bring their music to the stage from East to West. So keep an ear to the ground and listen for Railroad Earth, because they'll be rolling through your town very soon.
- ten2nine
"I hate to break the news to you, but you guy's may have finally put all the pieces together. This new ep is the best work I've heard from you ever! The writing, lyrics and music is superb, the performance is top notch and [Jim Leguilloux's] production gives it a true professional gloss." - Ron Gilmour, Power 104 Kelowna, BC
- Metharia
The debut on the band was on 18th January 2000, when Metharia won the festival "Le Quattro Notti Rock." In June 2003 they are one of the three winners of the "NMC festival,' in Marcerta winning the award for the best live performance.
- Signal Path
Armed with new jungle juice, they are warming up and ready to play. They opened up with a latenight show in Atlanta and continued on to Mountain View Jam Festival in North Carolina. Coast to coast, they'll be working their way to SummerCamp, Wakarusa, and High Sierra Music Festival.
- T-Band
Jim Dooney plays guitar and does most of the lead vocals. He is great at getting everyone involved in the fun by taking requests or choosing the perfect song for any situation. Amy Anderson plays the stand up bass and sings harmony. Amy is the musical backbone of the band. Her playing punch and solid timing keeps us all together in our all acoustic environment. Robert Griffith plays banjo and sings harmony. Rob drives the band with lightning fast fingers and great improvising skills. Rich Egan plays mandolin and does some vocals. Rich keeps your feet tapping and your fingers snapping with his rhythm chops and is great at playing tasteful solos."
- Shanti Groove (September 2003)
Shanti's groove moves along acoustical and electrical lines, combining the voice of jazz and rock with back porch bluegrass and funktified percussion. Bringing their unique sound to venues nationwide, the band provides a musical celebration of the 'groove' kind.

- Curious Yellow (August 2003)
After fronting a couple bands in the mid 90s in California and spending the next several years developing his musical and songwriting talents in Japan and Minneapolis, Adam Lancaster landed in Denver in 2000 and founded the band.
The band took on many formations and seemingly endless lineup changes for about a year until the perfect complimentary additions of Gregg Rosenthal (drums), Josh Eckhoff (guitar), and Matt Novack (bass, vocals) created a sound and style beyond what Adam could have hoped for. This new talented group immediately began writing songs and reworking old songs to create music and a performance that attracts and engages every listening audience. The personal and musical bond between each member deepened quickly and the dedication from everyone to develop the band to its fullest possibilities is evident.
- New Monsoon (June 2003)
Utilizing congas, timbales, tabla, banjo, bongos, Dobro, ghatham, Didgeridoo, electric and acoustic guitars, bass, drum kit and keys, the band offers a plethora of textures, rhythms, ideas and moods. New Monsoon absorbs elements of sound indigenous to world culture and incorporates them into a variety of colorful and original rhythmic compositions.
- One Way Rider (May 2003)
"One Way Rider has taken Nashville by storm! It was an honor to have them perform on the Interstate Radio Network a network of over twenty stations that broadcast from Music City and airs nationwide and in Canada. Locally in Nashville, the IRN broadcast on WSM 650 AM, the home of the Grand Ole Opry. The response was great! We cant wait to have them come back on the air and play for us again. It was so good to be with folks that live and love the bluegrass way, truly a blessed family. David and Valerie are a great example of what a family can accomplish together."
- Smokestack (January 2003)
“The quality of playing blew me away. All four guys were stars, but that keyboard player is a superstar. Very Hornsby in his writing and singing, very Medeski with his jams. I have had the CD for a few months, and being a little familiar with the songs impressed me even more.” CanJam News Toronto,
Canada
- The Miltones (December 2002)
Formed in the summer of 2000, the Miltones have already performed over 350 shows in under 28 months. Their high volume of gigs has enabled the band to mature and explore a range of musical directions that make them a formidable artistic act. Simultaneously their music seems to embrace a level of healing and celebration that make them both accessible and fortunate for the audiences they have attracted.
- Ripple (November 2002)
When Ripple started out in an Old Tappan, NJ basement during early 1978, none of us thought we would be discussing the possibilities of playing together for 25 years. But that’s exactly what happened. From the early day’s of playing friends parties (usually when the Parent’s were away) to all the great nightclubs and other interesting venues we’ve performed at during the years, we’ve met some amazing people and formed life long friendships that will long out live the Band.

- Fair To Midland (September 2002)
Brett Stowers and Nathin Seals offer a rhythmic passion that leads the humble gentlemen in their avant-garde sound. The unearthed discord and unconventional cries of frontman Andrew Sudderth infused with guitarist Cliff Campbell's melodic fury tumble into a captivating creation of sonics, cultures, and confusion. Combined with the subtle offering of Matt Langley on keys, FTM glides past the expected boundries and gracefully throws their intense rock harmonies to the flame.
- The Few (July 2002)
"We did it in chunks, whenever he was available," says Burnside. "Living there, and playing in the clubs, it raises your game." The result, an explosive, hooky collection that echoes Burnside's love of the Replacements and fascination with the Cure, is startling from a 22-year-old who took up guitar only three years ago.

Pete’s former association with TOM MARSHALL of PHISH led to the band AMFIBIAN. It was here in this situation that Pete found his voice and his motivation..

- A Conversation with Mandolin Virtuoso Peter Ostroushko
Though Peter Ostroushko's generosity is well known among other musicians as he quietly sits in the background, adding instrumental support for many solo artists, he is in his own stead an incredibly versatile and sensitive player and composer. He has amassed a legacy of his own original recordings on Red House Records, orchestral compositions, scores for musicals, soundtracks for documentaries, and his own active touring schedule. He also plays several different stringed instruments in a variety of styles.

- Day 2 of Jam on the River 2008
Overall, Jam on the River 2008 was a great time. For next year, I would like to see a more rock oriented lineup with some bigger names, maybe less DJs and more rock n’ roll jam bands. Furthermore, a bluegrass band, mixed in with a Rose Hill Drive type act. Even an African sounding band like Toubab Crewe or more jam bands like RAQ or moe would be nice. I wouldn’t even mind a Latin influence like Manu Chao or Rodrigo y Gabriella. How about the jazz funk jam bands like Galactic or the Dirty Dozen Brass Band? Philadelphia needs to get out of their electronic cocoon of bands in the jam community and branch out to become more diverse. This festival has the potential to bring the whole jam community to the city of brotherly love.

- Behind the Dead Symphony: A Look at Lee Johnson's Great Opus
For classical composer Lee Johnson, tackling the work of the Grateful Dead was like discovering the musical foundations of a new foreign country. Johnson is known for his concert pieces, choral works, short operas and musicals, planetarium soundtracks, and solo/ensemble pieces that cross into jazz and big band music. Some of these disparate elements also find their way into his full-length symphonies where he has even added world music, a jazz/rock band, or whale song to his orchestras.

- STS9 Releases 'Peaceblaster,' July 8th, 2008
Consider the title of the California-based outfit's long-awaited fourth album: Peaceblaster. The two words rub against each other to create an image that is simultaneously utopian and violent, fraught with the very contradiction that permeates America circa now. The result is a tour-de-force of gut-punching rhythms and textured, shimmering tones. The songs don't seem to have been written so much as plucked from the sky.

- Rose Hill Drive Hosts CD Release Party at the Fox Theater
When I walked into the Fox Theater last Tuesday night through the crowd of long haired teenagers, would-be revolutionaries and otherwise strongly opinionated young people, the building fairly stank of angst and attitude. The cause: Rose Hill Drive was celebrating the release of their second CD, “Moon is the New Earth,” and it attracted the usual gang of Alice In Chains and Hansen look-a-likes, as well as a healthy assortment of all-around rock and roll junkies whose physical appearance wasn’t so easy to stereotype.

- Pearl Jam: An Act of Common Sense and Greatness
As Eddie Vedder quickly pointed out, there was something special in the air on this night in Camden, NJ. Most people equate Camden with their recent memories of crime and race riots. On the other hand, many forget that it was a place of art and authorship. Walt Whitman and famous haiku writer Nick Virgilio lived in Camden and wrote beautiful poems about it. Even Poe frequented Camden when he lived in Philadelphia, around the corner from where I live right now. The reason why I mention all of this when I write a concert review about Pearl Jam is because these themes of writing, art, spoken word, darkness, and hope were around all throughout the night.

- Can I Hear An Amen?: Railroad Earth's New Album
It's a curiosity that Railroad Earth named their latest album, Amen Corner. A lot of people relate that name to holes 11-13 in a full round of golf. It was first used in that context in 1958 by Herbert Warren Wind, a writer for Sports Illustrated, who was trying to give some color to Arnold Palmer's first dramatic win. Even today Tiger Woods and others refer to those holes and the sometimes miraculous things that happen there as the Amen Corner. But that isn't where that term originally came from. The sportswriter got it from an old jazz recording of a song called, “Shouting in the Amen Corner.”

It is no easy feat to sell over 9,000 tickets per show, and the band's rabid fan base will surely be thanked with another exciting weekend of music.

- Turbine Rumbles in the Red Fish
Rightmire’s harmonica is almost certainly the band’s most exciting feature. It functions like a mouth-operated synthesizer, electrified, and run through a huge board of pedals. At times it sounds like a DJ scratch kit, at others it sounds like something from outer space. Sometimes it sounds like a regular harmonica. Rightmire’s epic lung capacity allows him to jam out on the mouth harp with incredible longevity. Long after most people would have blacked out and fallen over, Rightmire keeps the notes flowing, rocking around like a man possessed. I felt lightheaded just watching.

- New Years Eve: Zeppelin Reborn as Rose Hill Drive
The promise of hearing Zeppelin II was a deal-maker as well, the kind of rock and roll Rose Hill Drive does best. But when the band opened up with Trans Am, an original track off the band’s latest, Moon is the New Earth, the crowd didn’t know what to think. As it would turn out, the change up was so that the band wouldn’t have to pause in the middle of Zeppelin II to play Auld Lang Syne, release the balloons, and watch the happy couples make out on the dance floor. Good thing too, because once these guys got going, there was no stopping them.

- Harlem Shakes To Release Debut LP 'Technicolor Health'
After extensive touring and a bit of schooling, the band got back together with Chris Zane (Les Savy Fav, The Walkmen, Passion Pit, White Rabbits) to record their first full-length album, Technicolor Health. The result is one of the most quietly ambitious pop albums in ages. Much like Blur fused English pop traditions and contemporary sonics to forge Brit Pop, Harlem Shakes meld the Great American Songbook with unmistakably contemporary textures, creating what one might call "Am Pop." Influences as disparate as the Band, Randy Newman, Carlos Santana and Spank Rock inform the soundscapes, but the vibe is too coherent to be called eclectic.

- Hot Buttered Rum & The Travelin' McCourys @ Boulder Theater
Hot Buttered Rum, one of the hardest-working and fastest-rising stars in the musical firmament, has become, over the last five years, a group that is infinitely greater than the sum of its parts. Often described as a rock band playing bluegrass instruments, the band melds blues, folks, bluegrass, jazz, and rock, and the members’ varying degrees of classical training lead them to invest heavily in group composition. The widespread appeal of HBR’s music stems not only from the band’s musical versatility and prolific songwriting, but also from the magnetic chemistry the group creates onstage together. It is this chemistry that is propelling the band to ever greater success.

Every town has its bar band that packs in the crowds on Saturday nights, but few towns have a draw like Minneapolis' group, The Feelin Band, and what they can produce, wrapped up in a good time.
A four-piece band, made up of a regional music veterans, has a sound that is as varied as its musical roots. Band members, however, may also vary, depending on how far the band needs to tour. When the band is playing locally, the players are consistent. Sam Weyandt (electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin, backup vocals) also played with those Northern-based southern rockers, White Iron Band. St. Johns University professor Jeff Engholm (standup and electric bass, trombone, backup vocals) plays with the George Maurer Jazz Group and Collective Unconscious and the Led Zeppelin cover band, Blimp. Paul Grill (drums, percussion, backup vocals) played with Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank and tours regularly with the band. The fourth member is Nicholas Mrozinski, the founder and driving force for The Feelin Band, who played piano with the White Iron Band and supported Teague Alexy (Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank) in his solo work. But Mrozinski also is comfortable with a range of other instruments, including organ, micro-korg, melodica, acoustic guitar, and some percussion.
It is Mrozinski's vision, along with his versatile voice and prolific songwriting talents, that has shaped the band. Their debut release, The Sacred Play of Life, is a 17-track journey into love, life, and spirit. Woven through its songs are blues, jazz, rock, country, pop, reggae, and theatrical and klezmer stylings, as well as a sprinkling of hip-hop and R&B. The band is able to handle all of these genres easily.
But more difficult for any band would be the diverse vocal styles. Mrozinski is able to deliver those with ease and grace. There are the Delta sounds of Leon Russell and Aaron Neville in his voice. Sometimes, he has flavors of Tom Jones and Van Morrison. Sometimes, his voice has an echo of John Legend and Tom Waits.
His piano work equally cannot be lumped into anyone particular style. This may be due to his intense creativity. Even as a child when he played classical music festivals. “I would always get points docked off because I would add stuff to left hand,” Mrozinski recalls. “So, then the judges would say, 'You're not playing what's written."
However, Mrozinski may have not grown into the talent that he was if it hadn't been for a formative experience when he was in second grade. “I was thinking about quiting piano,” he says. His maternal grandfather was dying. “He was yelling up to my grandma, 'Play the piano. Play the piano,'” Mrozinski recalls. “She said, 'I can't. I can't.' Then he said, 'Tell Nickie to play. Tell him never to stop.' That was the last words he ever said. Ever since then, that has been the sole motivation and the breath almost behind it to pursue this.” He took lessons in earnest and eventually started playing in bands when he was in high school.
Later, he made connections with musicians like the White Iron Band and Hobo Nephews. He moved to Colorado and tried to make it as a musician there. But like many local bands, playing in Colorado wasn't easy. “It was tough,” Mrozinski remembers. “National acts were ripping through there for 12 bucks. Who wants to see Whispering Drew?” And, like many local bands, even if they opened for a national act, the clubs paid in product. As Scott Franz of Inchfoot Yard and Zen Mothers said, “You can't make a living on a bar tab.”
While he was there, he began recording CDs. “I made an acoustic one when I was first thinking about moving back to Minnesota from Colorado,” Mrozinski says. “I put out four CDs that are under The Feelin' Band name. I came back and did an acoustic album, which we just made 100 of them in 2004. In between that, I started working on a solo piano CD that's done. That was like on the shelf, off the shelf, on the shelf, off the shelf.” The solo piano CD will be released next month to a wider distribution.
Then, Mrozinski got a call from the White Iron Band to come on home and play with them. “When I first moved back from Colorado, the White Iron Band was my main focus,” he says. Then he started pulling together a couple of players to become The Feelin Band and play some of his own music. “The Feelin Band would play when the White Iron Band wasn't playing. The Feelin Band has its own sound. We played with Teague Alexy (Hobo Nephews).” He even recorded with Alexi, including two of Mrozinski's songs. “We spent some time doing that and just kind of filling in the cracks. Then, we were saying, 'We really think we got something special here, something cool.' So, then we went to a four-piece.”
Mrozinski was busy playing music and partying. Then about a year and a half ago when he found out he was to become a father, he made a significant change in his life. “I was just kind of searching for something deeper,” Mrozinski says. He quit drinking. “I have the doors open upstairs so that I can communicate with my tongue and get it out more,” he adds. He began to dig further into life and began to write some serious material that explored Spirit and Love. He began playing regularly with the members of The Feelin Band and testing out new material. They then decided to take the band out in between gigs with their other bands.
The Sacred Play of Life is the culmination of that initial spiritual exploration. It is less gospel than it is more Buddhist and Bob Marley's One Love. There is a groundedness in the songs and a real playfulness in their presentation. Sprinkled throughout the wide range of music and vocal styles are these auditory bits taken from Mrozinski's life. There are sounds of a household—brushing teeth, washing dishes, flushing the toilet, saying “I Love You” to each other, spinning the dial on the radio, etc. These grounding bits emphasize Mrosinski's sense of the present, the sacredness in the ordinariness of living with those you love. Mixed in with all this is a cut called, “Villian,”a theatrical piece about the money machines that ensnare so many lives. The Sacred Play of Life is a remarkable piece of recording.
Moreover, this album is a long way from Mrozinski's first efforts or even his songs with Teague Alexy. “I started writing in high school,” he says. “I started writing simple tunes, two-chord tunes with a verse. They have just gradually grown....Now, The Sacred Play of Life is the motivation to change....We're just trying to bring this kind of awareness that's here, that we're totally alive right now. I even think the new tunes that I've been working on is like the next step, a forward step.”
In the meantime, The Feelin Band is touring in the Midwest but plans to spread their music across the country. They have already made a trip back to Colorado. But as the band begins to tour widely, Mrozinski tries to bring his family along with him. In the fall, The Feelin Band hopes to hit one of the coasts.
Though Mrozinski and The Feelin Band are becoming more widely know, Mrozinski doesn't have pretentions. “Sometimes I think when I get tired of playing music, I just want to shack up at a restaurant and start cooking,” he says. Right now, The Feelin Band is doing its own kind of cooking.
Look for The Sacred Play of Life and check them out live when you can. The band is worth a very careful listen.
