    With nearly 400 shows and tens of thousands of road miles now behind them, Railroad Earth has become a staple on the national touring and festival scene, and built a huge following of loyal fans that document and trade every note they play, and often join them on the road for multiple nights. These fans call themselves “Hobos,” and the band considers them to be the fuel that keeps this engine chugging along. Railroad Earth’s next album is planned for release in Spring 2004. Till then the band will continue to bring their music to the stage from East to West. So keep an ear to the ground and listen for Railroad Earth, because they'll be rolling through your town very soon.

    After fronting a couple bands in the mid 90s in California and spending the next several years developing his musical and songwriting talents in Japan and Minneapolis, Adam Lancaster landed in Denver in 2000 and founded the band. The band took on many formations and seemingly endless lineup changes for about a year until the perfect complimentary additions of Gregg Rosenthal (drums), Josh Eckhoff (guitar), and Matt Novack (bass, vocals) created a sound and style beyond what Adam could have hoped for. This new talented group immediately began writing songs and reworking old songs to create music and a performance that attracts and engages every listening audience. The personal and musical bond between each member deepened quickly and the dedication from everyone to develop the band to its fullest possibilities is evident.

At times it sounds like a DJ scratch kit, at others it sounds like something from outer space. Sometimes it sounds like a regular harmonica. Rightmire’s epic lung capacity allows him to jam out on the mouth harp with incredible longevity. Long after most people would have blacked out and fallen over, Rightmire keeps the notes flowing, rocking around like a man possessed. I felt lightheaded just watching.

Good thing too, because once these guys got going, there was no stopping them.

The DA reached out to her thin dark framed LCD screen and swiveled it neatly into my face as I was positioned in the seat across from her.

I had never seen so crisp a display, and sure enough, within her sharp and detailed state of the art LCD screen was my silouette at the wheel of my Subaru Wagon, running the red light....

 

Why not review our Municipal Services? Why review just the private sector, when so much of our taxes goes to government services? If we review enough to see patterns, perhaps we can effect positive change in these services meant to serve, us, anyway.

I will admit, I was on the lookout for sloppy, poor, and most importantly, Disrespectful Service. Kind of hoping to pick apart a mean bully like Floater's prison guard, for example. I was sure to find, somewhere in my court proceedings I thought, a meany, or at least, a mean beaurocracy.

The Ticket:

Photo Rader caught me violating City of Boulder Traffic Ordinance 7-4-3, described as "Obedience to red signal required."

It was 4/20/05, and I was attempting to cross one of Boulder's busiest intersections, and the reason photo radar is there, 28th street and Arapahoe.

It was a rare, raining morning in Boulder, and I am simply rusty at breaking in the rain. I like many native coloradoans, are not comfortable with rain and driving, and when the light turned yellow as I approached the intersection, I made the split second decision to go through, instead of hard breaking in the rain.

POP, POP, POP, went the strobe robot camera affixed to the top of the southwestern utility pole at the intersection, and caught for the world to see in image forever, my Subaru, and yes there, that's me gripping the wheel, yours truly failing in my obedience to the red signal.

I had heard about photo radar from neighbors, one said the ticket never came, so my first 'move' was to sit tight and see if the robotic police of the future would actually get a ticket to my home.

On 5/05/05 I got a letter from the City of Boulder. Under the postal red print .37 cents a huge stenciled grey badge with a top ribbon banner "Photo Enforcement" on top, and below on another ribbon, "City of Boulder."
