Produced by Jay Joyce, who joins an impressive line of producers (Béla Fleck, Tim O'Brien) before him, the Duhks have created their most energetic, fully realized, unearthly album to date. Seriously. "Jay's basement studio was like something out of the Star Trek Enterprise," adds founder and clawhammer banjoist, Leonard Podolak, who, in the past, "traditionally stuck close to the acoustic sound of our instruments. This record is a beautiful mosaic of different ideas and soundscapes."

Toubab Krewe is heading northeast this week, stopping in Charlottesville, VA, today, (5/9) for a show at the Satellite Ballroom, and landing in NYC on Saturday (5/10) for a show at the Blender Theater at Gramercy. We're thrilled to have our friend, legendary spoken word artist Umar Bin Hassan (The Last Poets), join us on stage in NYC. Brooklyn based Turbine opens the night.

The 7th Jammy Awards at the Wamu Theater at Madison Square Garden in the heart of New York City left no one disappointed to say the least. Despite all the far stretching rumors about Phish taking the stage together, phans still had a great time paying homage to one of the greatest rock n’ roll bands of all time. Phish’s lifetime achievement award was the theme of the evening, and everyone from Tom Marshall, Phish’s longtime lyricist, to Andy Gadiel, creator of one of the best Phish internet sites, were there to speak on their behalf.

Today a flux of excellent live electronica, or “jamtronica” groups has forcefully saturated the scene. Powerful groups like Lotus, The Pnuma Trio, Ozric Tentacles, and The New Deal have invigorated this style of music and gained national fame. Another talented collective, BoomBox, has emerged from the South blending elements of house, break beat, and raging guitar.
